Whether you use AdSense or one of the great alternatives-if you are not offering your readers a search box you are missing out on a great earning opportunity.In the case of AdSense and a few others you could be missing out on some very lucrative income-as ads clicked from a search often pay a huge premium over a text ad click on your website.

The reason for this is very simple,conversion rates.

The ROI/ROR or Return On Investment/Rate Of Return,is very important to an advertiser,and is something that they will gladly pay more  to increase the odds of their ad converting into a sale.The odds of someone making a purchase,joining a program,signing up for newsletter or what ever the advertiser may be promoting, is much higher from a person who takes the time to type in a keyword or phrase,then it is from a person clicking on a link.With ad clicks there is higher percent of the simply curious and undecided clicking than there is with someone who actually takes the time to do a search.

Since advertisers expect,and do receive,a much higher ROI for search results ad clicks,they are very willing to pay a premium to get their message in front of you.

If you were to type a keyword into a search box-such as the one above or below,and then to complete the search you would be taken to a “results page”.
These types of pages typically have list of text links ads,and the advertisers bid for position on the result page.Since they can control their position-where as with a normal ad they just come up in the rotation,they are even more likely to bid high so that they get good page position,as the majority of you will click one or more of the top four or five.

All of this translates into a great earning opportunity for publishers.Not only can you earn more from your website,you are offering a service to your readers which could translate into a higher rate of return readers.  have you been reading an article and wanted a bit more information on a term or subject?Simply by adding a search box to your site you enable your readers to come to think of your site as a place to find information.

When possible in the settings,when you place a search box,have the result page open in a new window-so that your site remains open,allowing your readers to easily return to you after they are finished their search.They may even wish to do another search after that,something that is understood and is accepted by the ad agencies,where a person clicking on your ads twice or more may actually cause you harm.

On the con side of having a search box there is the risk of your reader finding a better site then yours for his research,though that runs true with the normal ads as well.Some people may find the sight of a search box obtrusive,as not all companies have the most attractive ones,on the other hand many will think they give a site a mark of professionalism.

No matter which side of that argument you fall-unless you have some real objection that you just can not overcome,i advise all publishers to place one on each of your pages.
